March 20^th was officially the first day of spring . . . someone should have told mother nature. The seemingly strange weather continues to break high and low temperature records.
Spring . . . when the hours of day are approximately equal to the hours of night, dogwood branches blossoming and crocuses pushing through the ground, shedding your winter coat and opening your windows, the desire of anyone who has spent an all too long winter season indoors . . . to venture outside to soak up the sun.

I have found a new flower to make . . . well it's new for me and easy!

For one flower you will need the following:
One circle cut out of double sided paper.
Five hearts cut out of double sided paper.

I used my Cricut machine to cut out my heats and the circle.  You could also use a heart and circle punch.
I cut the hearts at 1 3/4" using the Create a Critter cart - the heart is on pg. 64

I cut the circle at 2 1/2" using the Accent Essentials cart - the circle is on pg. 32

1) Take your five hearts and fold the bottom point up to the center point at the top of the heart and set aside.

2) Take your circle and place a line of adhesive around the very edge.

3) Lay your folded hearts around the perimeter of the circle, making sure that the flat folded edge meets the flat folded point on the next heart you lay down. Continue all the way around the circle.

4) Nudge the hearts until they are evenly spaced around the circle. This should create an even pentagon in the center of the circle.


5) Embellish the middle of the circle however you want.

I used a chipboard star and button.

Now wasn’t that an easy flower to make!

Textile Layout Challenge

My challenge is to turn your lo into a textile work of art - using fabric, felt, ribbon, embroidery floss, lace, fibers, etc.
I love trying new techniques and for this layout I used Gesso on the background paper as a texture to grip the next layer of paint, matte gel to stiffen the fabric and lace, and spatter painting to bring it all together.
Products used: My Mind's Eye, Jenni Bowlin, Prima and Making Memoires

I have also been trying to get Sam's first year album done.

My name is Joan Borgelt and I live in Shelby, Ohio with my husband Randy of 32 years and our 19 year old grandson.  By day I’m an Education Specialist and by night I’m a passionate scrapbooker, well ok a little obsessed with it!

I have been scrapbooking for over a decade, preserving our present for the future and our past for the present.  Scrapbooking is not only therapeutic but an opportunity for me to express my creativity.  The results are treasured keepsakes shared with family and friends.

I have a combination of styles:
Hip/Modern – I like trying new techniques and my color choices are bold and assorted.
Romantic – Distressing and inking are my favorite techniques. I love layering paper and if I can find a way to use ribbon and flowers on a boy layout I will.
Shabby-Chic – I love all things vintage, well worn and peeling. Experimenting with mixing colors, patterns and textures is very forgiving. My mistakes are taken as part of the look I was going for. I love patterned paper, layering and clustering embellishments.  I’ll try any technique at least once and have just become interested in using multi mediums on my pages.  My family and especially my eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren are the focus of most of my layouts.

Besides scrapbooking I love spending time with my family, traveling and I’m somewhat of a gym rat.

I’m thrilled to be a part of this talented My Sketch World Design Team!
