One random drawn prize winner will receive a $12.00 voucher to Just Some Lines.

When I saw the Jenni Bowlin reproduction “Hotel Key Holder” my first thought was … Oh the possibilities! When I received this product the wheels started turning. I had so many ideas in my head I didn’t know what to do. My only regret is that I didn’t order 3 or 4 of them lol!

This little treasure measures 11 X 14 and is detailed with gold numbers with a little brass hook above each number. The hooks remove easily for placement of embellishments.

I just happened to have some old keys and all the other embellishments are from my scrappy stash.

I actually found this idea on Pinterest and thought it was so cute. I cut my tags with my Cricut using the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge. I went through my scrappy stash and found a ton of Christmas embellishments to use. So far I’ve made 16 of these tags for family and friends.

Using the facts you read here may lead you to impress your friends with your knowledge about Reindeer this holiday season.

Did you know:

Reindeer are a species of deer whose natural habitat is the far northern areas of arctic Europe, Asia, and North America extending onto the tundra above the tree-line . The name for these deer found native to North America (including Greenland) is "Caribou", while in Europe it is known as the "Reindeer". They are the same species. The reindeer is thought to have first been domesticated by humans at least 3,000 years ago (and perhaps as long as 7,000 years ago) in northern Eurasia (Lapland), and still remains the only deer to be widely domesticated. Used as beasts of burden and farmed for milk, meat and their hides, reindeer have been the economic basis of the Lapp culture for centuries. However, because of their popularity, today they are raised in many areas of the world outside of their native arctic.

Reindeer are the only type of deer in which both male and female reindeer have antlers. Female reindeer retain their antlers until they give birth to their young in the spring. Keeping their antlers throughout the winter ensures they are able to compete for food while pregnant. Male reindeer shed their antlers each winter.

Male reindeer have much louder calls than females, especially during rutting season. When bellowing is necessary, they inflate a small pouch just under the skin of their throats.

Reindeer have a strong sense of smell, and it's that sense of smell that assist them in finding the lichen under the snow. They can sniff out the plant material easily, even through snow that is 60 centimeters deep.

Reindeer were built for the snow and cold. Their bodies react to changes in temperatures by making adjustments. When temperatures become frigid, they have the uncanny ability to lower the temperature in their legs to near freezing levels. This keeps their core body heat even.

For winter grazing they grow their facial hair long enough to cover their mouths, protecting their muzzles from the snow.

… and we all know Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but he actually wasn't in the original list of Santa's reindeer names in "Twas The Night Before Christmas". The classic Christmas poem, first published in 1823, calls out the following reindeer names:

1. Dasher
2. Dancer
3. Prancer
4. Vixen
5. Comet
6. Cupid
7. Dunder
8. Blixem

And I thought this idea was adorable “Reindeer Food”! There are several variations to this in cyber land. I mixed 1 large container of oatmeal with an 8oz jar of red glitter. I then filled recycled Starbucks Coffee bottles and decorated them.

The poem on the tag reads:

Be sure to take this
magic food and sprinkle
on the lawn,
On Christmas, Santa's
reindeer travel miles
before the dawn.
The smell of oats
and the glitter
path will guide them
on their way,
And you'll wake
up to Santa's
gifts next morn on
Christmas Day!

The perfect Christmas tree? All Christmas trees are perfect!

And I think these little Christmas trees will make perfect teacher gifts.

They measure 7 inches tall and I made them out of scalloped circles cut with my Cricut using the Winter Woodland cartridge (image found on page 32).

The 17 scalloped circles range in size from 3 ½ inches to 1 ¼ inches. After cutting the circles out I made a base out of corrugated cardboard. I used a wooden skewer as the trunk of the tree and then punched a hole in the middle of each circle and threaded them onto the skewer from biggest to smallest gluing them in place.

It’s Monday and time for another challenge on the
Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog.

Since Gracelynn arrived (October 21st..) I have been creating a fair number of girly scrapbook layouts.  Believe me I'm having no trouble finding (way to many) cute products to inspire my creativity.  In fact, my scrap room is overflowing with embellishments that fit the bill.

I'm hosting a challenge this month at My Sketch World and this is the layout I did for an example.
The challenge is to use a doily/doilies on a layout.  Hope you can find some time to check out the challenges by the other DT Members and participate.  Can't wait to see what you come up with!

What do you do with an egg carton once you have used all the eggs? Usually I throw them away. The eggs I buy come in a Styrofoam container and cost about $1.89. A few weeks ago while I was at the grocery store I noticed eggs in these clear plastic egg cartons to the tune of $4.32. All I could think of was who in their right mind would buy eggs for $4.32 … I don’t care if they are organic?! For whatever reasons I kept thinking of those clear egg cartons and the possibilities of altering them. So yes, the next week I purchased the eggs in the clear carton for $4.32. And let me tell you it was so worth it! I altered the clear container and filled it with little pairs of socks for my granddaughter Gracelynn. How adorable is this?!

Can you believe it’s Monday again!? … and time for another challenge (#145) on the Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog.

The November sketch is up at My Sketch World. Be sure to check out the blog for some wonderful inspiration from the Design Team.

This was my take on the sketch. I usually only scrap one photo on a layout. This sketch took me out of my box a little and I used the last of Jessica’s pregnancy photos (with Gracelynn).

Speaking of Gracelynn … we think she is just adorable!

... as we do all our grandchildren!

It’s Monday and time for another challenge on the Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog.

This week it’s all about the “Pumpkin Patch“ or anything fall related. I received a free project sheet from Archiver’s over a year ago on how to make a really cute pumpkin out of cardstock. It’s one of those projects that I wanted to try … but never had the time to do. When I saw this challenge I remembered that project sheet and knew that pumpkin would be perfect for this challenge. I changed it up a bit from the original directions and I used patterned paper instead of a solid color cardstock. I will say all that scoring was a lot of work but I love how it turned out.

Be sure to link your project to the inlinkz tool on the Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog. To be eligible for the prize draw you need to be linked by Sunday October 21st.

One random drawn prize winner will receive a $10.00 voucher to Di’s Digi Downloads.

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Each month I make my grandson’s some type of little gift to take their teachers. I figure the 5 Howard boys will make a name for themselves … and a little bribery never hurt lol! This month each teacher is getting an adorable little treat bag. I have been so inspired by my new scrappy tools from Just Imagine Crafts!

I cut the bags out with my Cricut, using the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge. I then used the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to cut the hole in the front of the bags. I used the Kreaxions 4 in 1 punch #916 with no insert to give the top of the bags a decorative border.  Adding a little bag of candy corn finished the project.  These cute little bags would make great party favors too!

Leave a comment here on my blog and on the Just Imagine Crafts Blog and be entered to win a random draw prize RAK from me.

Are you ready for the Monday challenge on the Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog!?

This week the challenge is (#140) “Autumn Leaves Falling” for this challenge I decided to cut the images with my Cricut machine using the Serenade cartridge. I then embossed them using my very neglected Cuttlebug machine and embossing folders. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Sunday, October 7, 2012

I'm beyond thrilled to be the Guest Designer for October on the Just Imagine Crafts Kreaxions Punches Blog!
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little technically challenged … ok more than a little, I’ll say a lot lol! We have an alarm clock I don’t know how to set, I have a smart phone that is smarter than I am and I don’t pump my own gas. So when I received my Kreaxions punch and supplies from Just Imagine Crafts I was a little intimidated when I saw them. The circle cutter, the 4 in 1 punch, the stencils … whoa … the positioning parts! How was I going to figure all this out?! Let me tell you that after watching the video tutorials from the blog just once I felt confident and started experimenting and creating the following projects.

For the “Spooky Card” I had wanted to try making these flowers out of newspaper for months and never did because … who has time to cut out all those circles. Using the Kreaxions Circle Cutter I found I could cut through several layers of newspaper at once, what a timesaver! Using the Kreaxions 4 in 1 punch #312 with no insert I created the perfect border to finish off the card.

For the “Boo” card I used the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to cut a perfect circle which I distressed and then mounted my title on. Using the Kreaxions #312 4 in 1 punch I made a border and then embellished it with pearls.

I wanted to do something special for this layout “Expecting Gracelynn”. It’s for our daughter who is expecting their 6th child and their first girl. I used the Kreaxions B circle template along with the positioning system and the #312 4 in 1 punch to create the punched circle. I also added some extra detail to the corners by using the #312 punch with the C insert. I love the results!

Be sure to check out the Just Imagine Crafts Kreaxions Punches Blog for lots of inspiration from some very talented ladies on their Design Team.
